Execute control /name Microsoft.Sound from the Command Prompt to access Sound directly. In Windows Vista, execute control /name Microsoft.AudioDevicesAndSoundThemes instead. Some of these settings are available through Windows Group Policy—but the Windows Group Policy Editor is only available to Professional versions of Windows. If you are using a non-Professional version of Windows, editing the Windows Registry is likely the only way to edit some of these settings. I am trying to learn how to implement and use a basic color-managed workflow. Toward that end I got a basic calibration system and an improved (but still only 99% sRGB gamut) monitor . But how to set the Windows Color Management control panel still has me unsure.

To back up the entire registry — Locate Computer by scrolling to the very top of the left side of the registry (where all the “folders” are). Once it’s been saved, you should feel comfortable that nearly any change, so long as it was made within the scope of the backup you made, can easily be undone. Backing up the Windows Registry, before you make any changes, is an incredibly smart thing to do.
